Analog Magnetostrictive Level Measurement Combined with Temperature Measurement
In industry, precise level and temperature measurements in plants, tanks, and containers are critical for efficiency and safety. The analog magnetostrictive level measurement combined with temperature sensors such as PT100 or PT1000 provides continuous, accurate monitoring of both the level and temperature. This technology has established itself as a leading solution to optimize processes and ensure stable operating conditions across various industries.
Functionality
The magnetostrictive measurement principle uses materials that change under magnetic fields, such as the magnetostrictive wire. In level measurement, a float with an integrated magnet is placed in the liquid. A tube around the float contains a coil that sends an electrical impulse, generating a magnetic field. This field affects the magnet in the float and causes a mechanical elongation or contraction of the wire. This change generates an elastic wave that propagates along the wire and is detected by the coil as a receiver. The time difference between the impulse and reception is measured to calculate the liquid level. The values can be used for display or automatic control of the filling process.
Temperature measurement is carried out with precise PT100 or PT1000 sensors, which utilize the resistance of a metal that changes with temperature. A PT100 sensor has a platinum resistance whose value decreases as the temperature increases, while a PT1000 sensor has a resistance that is 1000 times greater. The resistance values of the PT sensors are converted into temperature values and can be transmitted to control and regulation systems to monitor the temperature and control processes.
