Temperature sensor / temperature switch with ATEX approval

UniEx.T temperature sensor/temperature switch with ATEX approvalTemperature switches and temperature sensors with ATEX approval are suitable for use in explosive media and environments according to Directive 2014/34/EU. Float switches are passive devices. They do not require a power supply. All standard ATEX devices are offered for a temperature range of -20°C to +105°C in the medium, or -20°C to 70°C above process connection.
For PT100/PT1000 temperature sensors, platinum measuring resistors according to DIN EN 60751, Class B are used.
These can be implemented in 2-, 3- or 4-wire technology.

ATEX temperature sensors and switches are used in various industrial applications to monitor and control temperature in potentially explosive environments. Here are some of the key applications and tasks of these sensors:

  • Temperature Monitoring
ATEX temperature sensors are used to monitor temperature in critical processes such as chemical reactors, tanks, pipelines, ovens, and drying facilities. They precisely measure temperature and provide data for process control and regulation.

  • Temperature Control
ATEX temperature switches play a crucial role in temperature control in hazardous environments. Once a specific temperature threshold is reached or exceeded, they trigger electrical switching operations to initiate safety measures or activate alarms.

  • Safety and Explosion Protection
The primary task of ATEX temperature sensors and switches is to ensure safety in potentially explosive areas. By monitoring and controlling temperature, they help identify and prevent potential hazardous situations, avoiding explosions or fires.

  • Process Optimization
Through accurate temperature measurements and control, ATEX temperature sensors and switches contribute to the optimization of industrial processes. They enable precise control of heating and cooling processes to improve efficiency, ensure product quality, and minimize downtime.

  • The temperature sensor/switch may only be operated with certified intrinsically safe circuits with the permissible maximum values.
  • The device must be included in the periodic pressure/safety test of the container
  • The temperature sensor/switch must be electrically connected to the equipotential bonding system of the plant.
  • Petrochemical Industry
In petrochemical plants, ATEX temperature sensors and switches are used to monitor temperature in critical processes such as distillation towers, crackers, and reformers. They ensure the safety and efficiency of these facilities that handle a variety of flammable substances.
  • Paint and Coating Industry
ATEX temperature sensors and switches are employed in paint booths, drying facilities, and ovens. They monitor and control temperature during the painting and drying process to ensure coating quality and prevent fires.
  • Energy Generation
In power plants, both coal-fired and nuclear, ATEX temperature sensors and switches find application. They monitor temperature in critical areas such as turbines, boilers, and pipelines to ensure safe and efficient energy generation.
  • Waste and Recycling Industry
In waste treatment facilities and during the recycling process, ATEX temperature sensors and switches are used to monitor and control temperature during activities such as waste incineration, composting, or processing recyclable materials. This helps ensure safety and prevent uncontrolled fires.
  • Vehicle Manufacturing
In the automotive and vehicle manufacturing sector, ATEX temperature sensors and switches are used in paint ovens and drying booths to monitor temperature during the coating process and ensure uniform drying and curing.
  • Chemical Industry
In chemical plants where flammable gases, vapors, or dusts are used, ATEX temperature sensors and switches are deployed. They monitor and control temperature in various processes such as reactors, distillation units, and storage tanks.
  • Oil and Gas Industry
In refinery facilities, offshore platforms, and petrochemical plants, ATEX temperature sensors and switches are utilized. They monitor temperature in pipelines, tanks, and pumping systems to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Mining and Heavy Industry
In mining and heavy industrial environments, ATEX temperature sensors and switches are used to monitor and control temperature in areas such as blast furnaces, smelters, foundries, and other critical locations.
